When will I hear from my performer?
You will hear from your performer by Wednesday evening, the week before your event. They will send an email introducing themself, and outlining the flow of the party. You will be able to ask them questions, share information about the birthday child, and inform them of anything they need to know!
What happens if I need to cancel?
If for some reason you need to cancel an event we will work with you to find an alternate date. If you decide to cancel and do not reschedule your event, your deposit will be retained as a cancellation fee.
Do you have travel fees?

Can I host my event outside?
You may book a performer for your outdoor event, except when the temperature exceeds 90 degrees Fahrenheit or the event space is wet from a recent rainfall. Our performers reserve the right to move locations if the weather is too extreme. Have a backup location inside, just in case the weather does not cooperate. Please provide the performer with a shaded and cool location (they are in heavy costumes and wigs) and a clean chair to sit in. Avoid all standing water and mud. Performers in heels cannot perform safely on grass, dirty, or mulch.
Do I tip my performer?
Our entertainers are highly skilled and trained in their art, and their job begins far before they arrive at your event. They research and study the characters, rehearse the songs, recreate character-specific makeup, and more. To show your appreciation, you are welcome to tip them appropriately. Although it is appreciated, it is never expected! Typically, gratuity ranges from $20 and up per performer, per event.
What do I need to supply for the performer?
Our performers will arrive with everything they need for a magical party. The only exception is a cup of water and some paper towels for face painting, if it is included in your party package. Usually they only need enough space for the children to spread out comfortably!
What prizes do the performers bring?
For parties 60 minutes and longer, our performer will bring candy prizes to give out to the children (typically Smarties candies). They will also bring a special gift for the birthday child that they will “win” at the end of the game. This is a small, non-edible gift such as a magic mirror, a headband, a crown, a jump rope, bubbles, etc. The gift will be themed to your character and may change based on availability.
Are your activities gender-neutral?
Yes! In our 10 years of experience, we have found that children of all genders can enjoy any character if they are given the opportunity! While our activities may be themed to that character, they are gender-neutral in practice and can accommodate all children at the party. Our performers are experienced and talented and can help include everyone during their visit.
Our tips direct from the WW fairy godmothers!
Address the performer by their character name at all times.
If you want to surprise the birthday child, be sure they are expecting a special guest. This way, you can avoid tears if they are overwhelmed when the character arrives.
Be sure to ask adult guests to keep their voices low. We have perfected our magical activities over 10 years, and you don’t want to miss any special moments!
Be sure there is a parent supervising in the same room as the performer. If children misbehave, please intervene before the character needs to stop the performance.
Be sure to let your performer know about what you have planned, special details about the birthday child, etc… This will help the performer prepare and make the party even more memorable.
How do you handle snowy weather?
If the weather becomes dangerous with heavy snow, our manager will contact you before your event to discuss options. We do everything possible to make sure you have a performer for your event, but the safety of our performers and your guests is our priority! Inform guests as soon as possible before your event if you are still planning on holding the party so that they can prepare.
We will make every effort to ensure your child and guests are treated with the utmost care. Wands and Wishes Occasions is not responsible or liable for any accidents or damages, staining of skin, clothing, hair, or allergic reaction due to face paint. Our face paint is non-toxic, professional paint. It is the responsibility of the parents/guest to inform us of any dietary restrictions, or food allergies in advance of the event.
FAQs – Mermaid Parties
About the mermaids
The Wands and Wishes Mermaids are Colorado’s only swimming, real life mermaids available for private parties and events. They are available for hire world-wide and are fully insured independent contractors. All mermaids are Free-Dive certified and some are also Scuba Certified. They are the world’s top aquatic performers and have extensive experience performing in different environments. Like all of our costuming, we only use the highest quality materials and are known around the country for producing the most authentic characters. Our mermaid tails are made with professional aquatic, skin-safe silicone, custom created exclusively for the WW Mermaids.
How many Guests Can Attend my Mermaid Party?
Currently due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Courtyard by Marriott is only allowing 5 guests in the pool at a time.
How do I reserve a Wands & Wishes mermaid?
Do I tip our mermaid?
Our Mermaids and their assistants are professional actresses and aquatic performers. Gratuity is customary, and greatly appreciated. Please hand this to the assistant before they leave.
How many children can I invite?
If you have more than 15 children in the water we require the booking of a second mermaid. This is for the safety of the mermaid and the children.
Where can a mermaid perform?
Our mermaids can perform at: local pools, rec centers, private homes, hotel pools, neighborhood pools, special events, renaissance fairs, open ocean shoots, movies, TV and film, pool parties, promotional events & premiers, corporate & VIP events, trade shows, yacht and sailboat events, beach parties, kid’s camp events, aquarium swims, resorts, on-land performances, photo booth at parties, free-diving work, school educational talks, weddings/receptions, fundraisers & charities, and more!
It is the client’s responsibility to reserve the facility or pool. Please inform the facility in advance of the mermaid’s attendance. We can provide a Certificate of Insurance if needed.
Our Mermaid’s tails are large and heavy. Please allow for enough room for her to fit in the pool with party guests and swim safely.
How does the mermaid arrive?
Our Mermaids all have special assistants, and always have a safety diver with them for deeper water events. Your mermaid can start her visit in the pool before the guests begin swimming, or she can arrive after the guests are in the water. If your event is in your home, please be sure children are in another area until the mermaids are ready.
Your mermaid will need a private area to change, with enough room to lie down fully. For her privacy and safety, it must be clear of all other guests. Your mermaid will be transported in a wheelchair, so please ensure that your pool or venue is wheelchair accessible.
What if older children don‘t believe she’s real?
Some children may insist on proving our mermaids are not real. We ask for your help by informing parents ahead of time to talk to older children about using their imagination. We strive to keep the magic alive for younger guests and the birthday child. It can be a major disappointment if adult guests ask about our tail, experience, real names, etc in the presence of believing children. Our actresses are ready for tough questions, but in order to keep the experience fun and playful for everyone, parents must be informed ahead of time. If a child becomes fixated on heckling, and is distracting our staff from entertaining, we will ask that you intervene. If intentional harm is brought upon a mermaid or staff, after requests for assistance have been made, or damages occur you may be liable for compensation.
Our Mermaids and staff will not tolerate any sexual harassment by any guest young or old, and reserve the right to stop all entertainment and leave the facility should this occur.
A note on children’s behavior
Our mermaids are accustomed to handling many behaviors. However, should a guest harm or be destructive in any way (pulling tail, spitting, hitting, splashing, jumping on, etc..) we ask for your assistance to help redirect or discipline the child. If the behavior continues, our staff has the right to remove the child from the situation for the safety of the mermaid and the other children. Our staff may enlist the help of lifeguards or other parents. We ask that you encourage all guests to show respect to our mermaids and staff.
Like all our professional entertainers, we require that they are treated with respect at all times. We find the best way to enforce this is to be present and observant at all times. Failure to follow our guidelines may result in our staff prematurely departing the event before their scheduled time and clients being charged the full amount, plus damages.
FAQs – Tea Parties
How do I reserve an event with Wands and Wishes?
We are only able to accept bookings via our online Reservation Form. Please click on “Book a Party” and fill out the reservation request form. Our Royal Tea Parties are only available at your location. We will reach out via email within 24 hours to review details and discuss any questions you may have!
Where can we have our tea party?
Unfortunately, we no longer host parties at our shop. However, we can travel to your location! In the past, we have hosted tea parties at homes, neighborhood club houses, rec center party rooms, and event centers.
What does Wands & Wishes provide?
We provide everything for up to 16 children: Tables, chairs, linens, tea cups, plates, tea pots, professional character entertainment, a party host, a themed craft, a dress-up rack with dresses, tutus, wings, and capes, music, set-up and clean-up, and of course magic!
What do I need to provide?
You will provide 3-4 finger foods for our hostess and performer to serve to the children, a beverage for the teapots (about 3 liters of any non-staining drink), a birthday dessert of your choice, the birthday child, and the guests! Our host will need an area large enough for two-three tables (about 5 feet in length) and enough chairs to seat your guests. Your performer will need enough space for the children to spread out for their activities!
What are your food suggestions?
We suggest about 3-4 finger foods to serve; in addition to cake or cupcakes. (cupcakes are always easier and then you have more time with the character, instead of cutting cake slices)
Ideas include: Fruit, mini carrots with dip, finger sandwiches, pizza, crackers and cheese, etc.
We do not allow any nut products, staining red sauces, staining juices, or ice cream.
What time should my guests arrive?
Your party host will arrive an hour before the character to begin setting up. We recommend that your guests arrive 10-15 minutes prior to the character to ensure that everyone is there and settled in. The host may still be setting up the tea party, so the children will need to be kept away from the tea party set up until it is fully ready!
How many children can be accommodated?
Our tea tables can only seat up to 16 children. We can accommodate a few more linens and table settings, but you will need to provide the chairs and table space. There is a $10 fee for each child over the 16 allowed. If you plan to have them sit at the tables, they are included in the final count.
Should we invite boys to the party?
Yes! Little princes are always welcome and have tons of fun!
What ages are best for the party?
We recommend ages 4 and up!
What is the flow of the party?
Our tea parties will begin with about 30 minutes of face painting by your performer, while your host leads the children in a craft. Then, we will sit down to eat and serve food and drink to the children. While they are still seated, we will sing “Happy Birthday” and serve your birthday dessert. At the hour mark, the character will begin the other activities: Singing, dancing, a game, a story, and photos with your guests. Please ask adult guests to keep the noise volume low so our performer can fully engage the children and the children can hear and enjoy their time with the performer. While your performer is entertaining the children, your host will begin cleaning up the tea party!
What should the children wear?
Whatever makes them happy! Our Royal Tea includes a dress-up rack with dresses, capes, and tutus that they can wear.
Should I provide a goody bag?
Some parents provide a party favor to thank guests for celebrating with them! It is up to each individual family. Each child will be able to take home the craft that they created, and we will give them a candy prize (typically a Smartie) during the game!
What is the cost for additional characters?
Each additional character at a tea party is $140.00.
